The Hidden Roles are a concept inspired by social games, such as Werewolves, Mafia and Resistance, which we all like and play regularly. The idea is simple – certain player is given a sort of a “secret mission” – something he/she will have to accomplish alone and, most of the times, without telling anybody about it. This mission will often contradict to the common interest of the Village and/or will even work against it.
Let’s take the Egoist for instance. A villager with such Hidden Role will have to, generally speaking, work in his/her own interest, at all costs. Naturally the other villagers will have a strong incentive to reveal who the Egoist is. Only this won’t be that simple, considering that every villager will inevitably work for his/her personal gain alone.
Even more interesting is the role of the Naturalist. A Villager with this hidden role will have to protect all wild life, even the predators. This includes the times (which is quite often) when the forest animals are a real and present danger, not only to a single villagers, but to the Village itself.
Successfully completing your Hidden Role mission/s will give you in-game bonuses and will allow you to go up the game ladder system for the specific role or
the common ladder for all Hidden Roles. The real gain for the game community, though, will be the additional dynamics that this gameplay element will hopefully bring to the experience.
Initially the game will include only a handful of Hidden Roles, but the game design allows us to constantly add new roles into the gameplay. Quite soon there could be tens of different Hidden Roles in Grimm Forest.
So what say you?
