You might be wondering about those ‘hidded roles’ our Kickstarter campaign mentions in its title. We’ve dedicated this article to just the topic! So let’s get on with it, shall we?
Aside from the primary roles, players in Grimm Forest will have an additional challenge in front of them, which is the salt of Grimm Forest and its social interactions – the hidden roles. They will make the game more challenging for individual players, put some tough decisions in front of them, and make it difficult for the villagers to stick together, because sometimes they will have completely different goals.
That being said, only small percentage of the villagers will have hidden roles, because if everyone had one, the village would go into total chaos – cooperation between the players will still be vital, and everyone’s main goal will still be survival.
The hidden roles are a part of the random character generation process – players cannot choose when and what hidden role they have. There are some distinct differences between professions and hidden roles:
- the other players cannot see what hidden role you have;
- the hidden role almost always carries additional goal, which affects your score;
- hidden roles are more rare and there are limits of the overall count (and the count of a specific role) that can co-exist in a particular village;
Here are some examples:
Being a leader is a huge responsibility and a heavy burden but if you don’t become the leader of those unorganized simpletons, you are all doomed to fail! For every day that you survive with a village role you get +50% points.
In a situation like the one you’re in, you may find yourself in a village with an old foe. Maybe one of the other players, nicknamed Momlover98, has done something terrible to your character’s mother in the past. He doesn’t know that you’re her son (or daughter) but you know you want revenge. You will lose 10 Sanity each day Momlover98 lives and -50% scoring points if he outlives you. Your Sanity is restored to maximum if he dies, and if it is by your hand – you get permanent immunity to negative effects coming from low Sanity and +50% scoring points in the end of the game.
You serve “the Beast” (a mysterious figure the game will mention only in the case of this role) in exchange for protection while you’re venturing into the forest. You usually carry out food for him, but sometimes he might request something else. You can’t even dare think what will happen if you dare to disobey him! You are certain the village walls will not protect you from his wrath.
There are a few other hidden roles that might have a huge impact on your gameplay. But even if you don’t receive a hidden role, you might want to understand who has one because that might help you predict his moves and gain advantage for yourself.
Yet, ultimately, your goal remains the same.
