The Movement Cost in relation to the Forest Terrain Types

At the core of our game economy are the Stamina Points, your “fuel” in the game, if you like. How effectively you manage, spend and regenerate them is key. They will be quite limited, just as your energy in real life, so you have to be very careful using them. This is valid for all the aspects of the gameplay, but let’s quickly shed a bit more light on it in regards to the movement cost in the game.
Our forest has 5 different terrain types, and we plan to include even more, since the game system allows it and gameplay will definitely benefit from it. Each terrain type with its own movement cost, specific wildlife and monsters, positive and negative sides for the traveler. The farther away you need to stray from the Village, in search for valuable items and resources, the more carefully you need to plan your route. The Meadows are the fastest and least expensive (in Stamina Points) terrain to travel on. But that’s also the most dangerous one. It’s where you can be easily spotted by wild beast and monsters most of which can outrun and catch you.
You can choose to travel through the Deep Forest instead where you can easily hide and remain unnoticed. But the movement cost will be more than doubled. The Hills, another terrain type in Grimm Forest, are even more expensive to traverse. But from a map tile with such terrain type the player will be able to scout around for free and obtain sometimes priceless information. Now, do you want to travel fast, travel safe, or have more information about your surroundings? You sure can not have all three at the same time. So make your choice.
