After days of wearing rove through the woods the survivors stumble upon a strange but most welcome discovery. As if answering their prayers there it is – a group of peculiar buildings right in the thick of the forest. A village? There’s not a living soul around to answer this or any other questions. Everything seems deserted, empty… silent. No signs of violence, no bodies, nothing to even hint at what might have happened here. As if life had been sucked out of this place.
The buildings themselves look strangely unfamiliar and out of place. Their all-wooden construction seems sturdy enough to withhold not only the cold and the wind, but also unwelcomed guests. The forest has taken its toll though. The nearby trees have grown into some of the buildings, their trunks and branches piercing through walls and roofs.
There’s much work to be done to make this “a village” again. But nonetheless, the survivors are grateful and – for the first time in weeks – feel a tiny sparkle of hope flickering in the gloom of the forest.
On top of its key gameplay role, the Village will be a constant source of story related flavours in Grimm Forest. Who are the people that built this place? When and why? Where are they now? Have they left anything of importance behind? It’s a fertile ground to experiment with, especially in terms of enhancing the game’s believability and immersion, and we’re very excited about it.
How about you?
